Another Interesting Canyon to Explore

View from the Ranch Road

The weather has been a beast in our area lately. Luckily, during the week between Christmas and New Year’s, there was one beautiful day that we were able to make the trek out to the Ranch to see how things were holding up to the wind/rain/snow.

We were happy to see that things are holding up beautifully. Once the weather warms a bit and the area dries out, we will be back to work on the first ranch building, aka, the Laughing Ass Saloon. More details to come.

After we checked the ranch and our adjacent property, we took a drive to explore more of the stunning mountains we now get to call our home away from home.

Several miles down the road, there is a side road that takes you up into a canyon, close to a recent exploratory drilling site. As an aside, we have no idea where they were drilling, what they were drilling for or if they found anything, we just know where the equipment was staged. Anyway, because we are curious (aka nosy) we picked that area to explore for a bit. Since the drilling has halted and the equipment is gone we were not intruding on anything.

What?? Another abandoned group of building? Yep. Nestled in the canyon are several structures and an old animal pen. I love the way the wood ages in the desert and the contrast between the rich desert colors against bleached wood is stunning. Even the outhouse is pretty.

One more reason to love this area.

Due to the recent rains/snows we could only explore a few miles up the canyon. The thick clay in some of the mountain areas tends to fill in tire treads, making your vehicle slip and slide. Not always a bad thing, but it was cold, and I really didn’t want to end up in a ditch that day 😊 We will be venturing up this way again once it dries out. More photos to come!

Once the Ranch opens to guests we will have detailed maps with directions to interesting places to explore while they are here. With hundreds of miles of trails to explore, I image the list of places will continue to grow.

Thanks for stopping by

Debbie
